These are a handsome matched pair of French Régence/Louis XV–style open armchairs, probably made in early 20thcentury,

They have:

* Gilt-finished carved or moulded hardwood frames

* Distinctive overlapping feather/scale decoration

* Serpentine seat rails and cabriole legs

* Deep-buttoned backs and loose buttoned cushions

* Faded sage-green velvet upholstery

They are decorative revival furniture rather than genuine 18th-century French chairs. The repeated, very regular carving suggests some ornament may be moulded composition applied to the wooden frames.

Condition

The frames appear reasonably complete and attractive, with expected rubbing and losses to the gilding. The upholstery is faded, marked and worn, with damage around one cushion. They would benefit from professional cleaning or full reupholstery.

Genuinely are very useable as they are if you like a warm worn look
