For sale are these exquisite and rare glass miniatures.
An unusual associated pair of early oval painted and stained-glass cabinet panels, probably Dutch or Flemish and dating from the late 17th century
One panel depicts a mounted trumpeter or huntsman in period dress; the companion depicts an early sailing vessel at sea. Both are finely decorated in fired black grisaille, yellow silver stain and coloured enamels.
The panels retain their original roughly grozed edges, indicating that they were formerly leaded into a cabinet, window, screen or decorative interior fitting.
Each measures approximately 170 × 95 mm.
Both exhibit extensive age-related surface weathering, corrosion, edge wear and minor losses, consistent with their considerable age. The principal painted decoration nevertheless remains clearly visible and highly decorative.
Offered as an associated pair. Continental European, probably Dutch or Flemish, circa 1650–1750.
